Housing & Tenants

Landlord and tenant legislation in 1988 and 1990 set out the guidelines for this relationship and the legal rights of the two parties.

Landlord and tenant relationships are very important, revolving around someone’s home and therefore have to be kept fair and professional. The Landlord and Tenant Act outlines the position of the landlord and their rights in situations that may arise, as well as protecting the rights of the tenant in a situation that their position may be threatened.

Qualified and experienced housing solicitors and barristers

At Amelius Solicitors, our housing solicitors understand the needs and priorities of the tenants as well as the property agents and landlords.

For most landlords the top priorities are protecting the investment and rental income. We aim to prevent problems, but when they do arise; our focus is on minimizing your cost.

We can advise on tenancy agreements and setting up the tenancy to avoid problems in the future. Or we will be happy to provide advice if things have gone wrong, for example, you need to recover possession.

On the other hand, whilst the majority of landlords are familiar with their legal responsibilities many tend to overlook the obligations that they owe to their tenants, both during the course of the tenancy and at the end of the tenancy. Sometimes premises are not fit for habitation or need substantial repair. On other occasions landlords ask tenants to leave the premises at very short notice. We can stop illegal evictions.

Home owners can also find themselves facing possession proceedings due to mortgage arrears. We can help resolve most debt and housing related issues.

Our specialist housing solicitors work very hard to ensure a first class service for landlord and tenants alike.
